Everyone loves a retelling, right In my case, I love reading variations of Cinderella, Snow White, Pride and Prejudice, Peter Pan and other mythical characters This time, I am in for a treat with a Beauty and the Beast retelling, and I liked it.Kiya needed some place to dwell After the death of her parents, she d got nothing left, even the house she had lived in was now asking her to leave When she saw a Wanted Housekeeper sign, she grabbed the opportunity, even though she heard bad rumors Everyone loves a retelling, right In my case, I love reading variations of Cinderella, Snow White, Pride and Prejudice, Peter Pan and other mythical characters This time, I am in for a treat with a Beauty and the Beast retelling, and I liked it.Kiya needed some place to dwell After the death of her parents, she d got nothing left, even the house she had lived in was now asking her to leave When she saw a Wanted Housekeeper sign, she grabbed the opportunity, even though she heard bad rumors about her possible employer.St John O Neill was an author who had been living in isolation Scarred and a recluse, he wasn t the easiest person to deal with He just left notes for his housekeeper and never showed his face to anyone But Kiya didn t mind until she accidentally saw him.Miscommunication plays a big part in this book Aside from the library of tomes and orangery, St John s abode is a perfect setting for romance and heartbreaks Kiya s feelings grew, St John suppressed his Until the one who caused the scar had come back and wanted to be part of his life again.I enjoyed reading this story It got the heart warming, romantic and tearful moments, too The pacing was normal yet satisfying It has an old world feel to it, sometimes I thought the story took place in the olden days, if not for the mention of mobile phones and iPads and high end cars Overall, Beauty and the Recluse is an interestingly affectionate read and a perfect bedtime story

Vikki s MusingsThis is the first book I have read by Ms Gray When I was offered a chance to read it in exchange for an honest review, the book description intrigued me and the title was enticing, so I agree I m certainly glad I did Beauty and the Recluse is a sweet romance, and even though it is contemporary, it has the feel of a time long gone Still dealing with the grief from losing her father, Kiya finds out she is faced with his debt, and not only needs a job but a home When she sees a Vikki s MusingsThis is the first book I have read by Ms Gray When I was offered a chance to read it in exchange for an honest review, the book description intrigued me and the title was enticing, so I agree I m certainly glad I did Beauty and the Recluse is a sweet romance, and even though it is contemporary, it has the feel of a time long gone Still dealing with the grief from losing her father, Kiya finds out she is faced with his debt, and not only needs a job but a home When she sees an ad for a live in housekeeper, it sounds like the perfect solution to her dilemma.St John O Neill has closed himself off from the world His house is devoid of mirrors and he lives in his study and his bedroom His house is in disorder and needs attention When a young woman contacts him about the position of housekeeper, he hires her without even meeting him. When Kiya arrives at the O Neill estate, she finds a note and a set of keys pinned to the door She starts work and has yet to meet her new employer When at last she meets this reclusive man, her heart is touched by the pain she sees in his eyes Can she find a way to bring him into the light and teach him to trust again The romance develops slowly between Kiya and St John I always enjoy this type of story So many times with contemporary romance, the couple meets and immediately fall in love Kiya and St John get to know each other over a matter of months This made their love story muchrealistic for me.However, even though the romance develops slowly, the pacing is great The story pulled me in from the first page and kept me engaged until the end St John s friend is a very nice addition to the book I truly liked this light hearted character. This is a sweet romance, so there is not very much sexual tension and only a couple of kisses between the hero and the heroine, but in no way takes away from the romance Beauty and the Recluse is all about the emotions each character feels toward the other For St John, it s about learning to overcome his disfigurement and trust another human being. If you enjoy a moving romance with great characters, then you will enjoy this sweet, traditional romance as much as I did It s refreshing to read a book with such a delightfully lovely story Happy reading

I read the blurb for this book and immediately knew it was right up my alley And I wasn t wrong, I loved reading it In fact, I read it in one go and then smiled happily but also a bit sadly because I didn t want the story to end.The book had just the right amount of confusion, emotional turmoil and suspense to make the sweet romance spicier I loved it that St John wasn t weak despite his dark past and his devastated soul, and that Kiya was a strong heroine too, not merely a simpering girl in I read the blurb for this book and immediately knew it was right up my alley And I wasn t wrong, I loved reading it In fact, I read it in one go and then smiled happily but also a bit sadly because I didn t want the story to end.The book had just the right amount of confusion, emotional turmoil and suspense to make the sweet romance spicier I loved it that St John wasn t weak despite his dark past and his devastated soul, and that Kiya was a strong heroine too, not merely a simpering girl in love with a mysterious and rich man St John was the very embodiment of tall, dark and handsome and I d have fallen for him too, despite the hard armour he kept himself hidden behind As for Dominic, it was a joy to have him enter the picture and be a support to both of them I won t revealabout just how important of a secondary character he is for fear of spoilers. There were a lot of lovely details in the novel that caught my interest and made the story evenbelievable Boris the kitten, Corinne whom I loved to hate , the garden party, the place itself with the orangery I recommend this book to everyone who loves short, clean romance with a healthy dose of breathless moments of suspense and intrigue

Kiya has lost both of her parents to a terminal illness After the death of her father she doesn t feel like going back to university and pick up her Law studies Now an orphan with no place to call home Kiya has to find a job as soon as possible She spots an ad in a store and decides to call in to see of the job is still available Kiya gets the job as a housekeeper and is amazed by the enormous and beautiful house she gets to live and work in She immediately falls in love with the property a Kiya has lost both of her parents to a terminal illness After the death of her father she doesn t feel like going back to university and pick up her Law studies Now an orphan with no place to call home Kiya has to find a job as soon as possible She spots an ad in a store and decides to call in to see of the job is still available Kiya gets the job as a housekeeper and is amazed by the enormous and beautiful house she gets to live and work in She immediately falls in love with the property and the surroundings.Kiya s employer is a little weird He has left her a note to welcome her and has also written down instructions Kiya can t use the kitchen at certain hours and a few rooms are off limits She finds these rules odd but does her best to meet all the expectations Ever since she started working she hasn t seen or spoken to her employer until one day she forgets to check the time and barges into the kitchen.St John lives all alone in his very big house and he prefers to keep it that way A few years ago he was in a car accident that scarred his face His fianc e left him while he was still in the hospital These events made him believe he is hideous and he pulls back from physical contact with other people altogether, only a handful of people get to see him and he keeps everyone else at a safe distance Meeting Kiya was not what St John had in mind but he can t seem to stop thinking about her She doesn t pull back from him because of his ugly scar and she is also not afraid to confront him head on when he s being unreasonable Unfortunately he isn t the only one who has been captivated by her good looks and wonderful character Will St John be able to put his past behind him and start letting people in again Kiya and St John are made for each other, but they were so frustrating at times They are both thinking about the other, but they are never speaking about what they feel, which results into a lot of misunderstandings The only thing I wanted as a reader was to finally get to that stage where they would let their walls down, because they both deserved so muchin life.Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder and this story shows that ugliness can also be on the inside His physical scar only shows how loving St John is, because he got it protecting someone else I wanted him to find some good things in life again after all he went through and I kept my fingers crossed that he would live happily ever after with Kiya I love a lovely romantic story and Beauty and the Recluse is really sweet

My Impressions Nothing new here I wasn t expecting much and quite honestly, the only reason I read it was because I liked the title A clever bit So imagine my surprise a pleasant surprise at the charming story that unfolded as I read the book Though contemporary, there is an old world feel to these two loversin fact the entire story is like a historical romance, transported into modern times And I mean this is the best sense The characters have personality, depthwhich is developed My Impressions Nothing new here I wasn t expecting much and quite honestly, the only reason I read it was because I liked the title A clever bit So imagine my surprise a pleasant surprise at the charming story that unfolded as I read the book Though contemporary, there is an old world feel to these two loversin fact the entire story is like a historical romance, transported into modern times And I mean this is the best sense The characters have personality, depthwhich is developed over time, as is their relationship, with all the associated ups and downs. The Love Story It s a pretty standard Beauty the Beast rehash However, the two main characters are quite likable and with some interesting layers to their personality enough to overcome the familiar storyline The author does a nice job showing Kiya s sorrow as opposed to just telling us she s sad The cat was truly heart breakingand very realistic eh, I m a cat owner, so I have a special softness Likewise, with St John the mirror scene is so mucheffective than any flat description of his emotional issues This, in my opinion is what elevates their love story from being a paint by the numbers rehash to the achingly sweet romance that it is Minor Beefs A bevy of contrived plot devises that provide some of the conflict in their road to coupledom The overheard conversation, the bitchy ex, the silly misunderstandings And why oh why, doesn t Kiya recognized the blaringly obvious jealousy St John exhibits Granted, she is young and sheltered, but come on No woman is that clueless Also, there s nothing going on but the romance I much prefer a complicated plot to go with my romance but its only a minor beef here, since the romance is very satisfying to my very soft hopelessly romantic heart Although, if there had been something else going on, that could have provided a muchinteresting complication to their love story than the same old cliches that are used.Extra Touch Nice steady pacing really helps the story No lulls, or fillers.all story.Cliffhanger None Not even a hint This is a stand alone book Though ehI wouldn t mind reading Dominic s storyat some later date Just saying The Verdict Two thumbs up I recommend this book for all romance readers Though no new ground is broken, its an enjoyable read

I think it s fair to say that the story s not entirely original it s really a re telling of Beauty and the Beast but the author does it so very well Kiya s sadness after the death of her grandfather is palpable, and she wins your heart very early in the book St John has a reputation locally for being difficult, bad tempered and solitary but in reality he hasthan physical scars, he s emotionally damaged too Their first encounters are difficult St John is actually downright nast I think it s fair to say that the story s not entirely original it s really a re telling of Beauty and the Beast but the author does it so very well Kiya s sadness after the death of her grandfather is palpable, and she wins your heart very early in the book St John has a reputation locally for being difficult, bad tempered and solitary but in reality he hasthan physical scars, he s emotionally damaged too Their first encounters are difficult St John is actually downright nasty, but only because he s not willing to let anyone past the boundaries he s built to protect himself As you d expect, those boundaries come down but this isn t a smooth running love story Misunderstandings abound and the story is really well told.It s curiously old fashioned which gives itof a fairy tale feel but has an entirely modern setting The first time one of the characters takes out a mobile phone, it feels slightly out of place but that isn t a criticism, bringing the story up to date really does work And it s not just a story of two people circling round each other St John s lawyer and friend, Dominic, plays a major part in the misunderstandings that drive the story, and is a thoroughly likeable character one of Kiya s male friends works on taming the garden, and the appearance of St John s girlfriend makes things very difficult for everyone And then there s the cat well, two cats really, one with a brief appearance onlyOne other thing I really liked about the book was the setting the mansion and its grounds are vividly described, as they re returned from neglect and desolation to their former beauty I d rather like to spend time in that restored orangery and the library sounds thoroughly lovely. The book is really well written, with natural dialogue, tender love scenes, characters that I really liked, well handled emotion and as a whole, it really works Don t be put off by the cover sorry Tirgearr, I really didn t like it at all this book has a great dealdepth than you might expect, and a warmth in the story s telling that brings a smile to your face I really rather enjoyed it
